Sanghyang Siksa Kandang Karesian is a didactic text, which gives rules, guidelines as well as teachings on religion and morality to the reader. Sanghyang Siksa kandang Karesia is the “book containing the rules to be resi (a wise or holy man)”. This manuscript is stored in the National Library of the Republic of Indonesia in Jakarta and marked with the kropak number of 630. This manuscript consists of 30 sheets of palm leaves and is dated “nora catur sagara wulan (0-4-4- 1)”, which is the year of 1440 Saka or 1518 AD. This makes this manuscript the oldest Sundanese text in existence. The text comprises an ancient Sundanese encyclopedia. It consists of a wealth of descriptions of structure of the government, terms of positions, types of technology, the arts, religious levels as well as war systems and fighting tactics. In addition, the text also contains a calendar whose meanings could be asked of a Bujangga, and of holy books that were explained by a priest.
