Babad Balambangan, according to colophon was written by Purwasatra of Prabalingga beginning on Monday Pahing, 29 Sura of Java in 1700 (April 12, 1774). Although there is no information about the copy of the text, based on the type of paper and the writing style used, it is possible that this manuscript was copied in the early 19th century in the coastal areas of East Java. The manuscript was obtained by Bataviaasch Genootschap in 1867 as a gift from Mr. G.R. Lucardie through the intermediary of R.A. Sitthoff (Notulen 5, 1867: 55). The text begins with the story of King Balambangan named Prince Patih who still adhered to the old religion, at odds with his brother named Wong Agung Wilis. The story continues with the attack by Wong Agung Wilis assisted by troops from Bali on Balambangan and ended in the preparation of the attack on Malang by the soldiers of Surakarta, Surabaya and Kumpeni. The text consists of 33 stanzas.
